Today's the last day of the year 2006.

The Chinese are a fairly superstitious lot. I suppose no culture is without its beliefs or customs, peculiar and practical. I was taught as a child that crying/being angry/being generally negative on the eve of so-called 'good days' was a big no-no.

So I have this theory. Every belief or custom exists because of something that happened in the past. For example, people eat red eggs on birthdays because red = blood. Blood = life. Birthday = new life = new blood. Keep in mind that this is just a theory. In the same way, maybe Muslim females keep themselves covered because that's what you do in a desert - you cover up all exposed skin (to keep from burning) and to keep the sand out (which can be downright annoying and uncomfortable. And really, who wants to deal with a girl who is PMSing AND frustrated at all the sand in her clothes?). And maybe Hindus don't eat beef because someone who was Hindu in a village somewhere ate a cow once and got Taenia saginata problems. Or discovered that hey, if you kill a cow, you don't get milk. And milk is good.

Just a theory ya. I don't mean to be mean/racist/ethnicist/a misintepretor. Just... don't misinterpret me. ><

Following that same theory, maybe that earlier mentioned Chinese belief has its roots in the parties early Chinese ancestors had. See, on the eves of 'good days' usually there's a hugeeeeeee party to... well, celebrate the good day. If someone cried/was angry/was generally negative on the eve of the good day, then there goes the party, doesn't it?

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to

Heh.

Well, I did it. I cried on the eve of a 'good day', in this case... New years'. I'm home alone on New Years' Eve... and I will be home alone when it's midnight.

Well, the punishment for crying on the eve of a good day... or at a new beginning... is that there will be much crying during the year... or whatever that eve or celebration marks...

Well, that explains why last year was absolute crap, emotionally at least.

And it looks like it will be the same next...

Ah screw it. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Happy new year, everyone.
